East Providence Blanks Mt. St. Charles 10-0.

EP - Westerly Two Game Clash Next Week!

East Providence’s Tyler Dicecco pitched a complete game one-hit shutout, stopping Mount St. Charles with a masterful mound performance in a Saturday morning game at EPHS. Dicecco also contributed two hits. The Mounties were the home team, but the game was played in East Providence. Dicecco struck out 9, had no walks and gave up just one hit, an infield single to third base.

Nolan Lorenz singled sharply to right field in the Townies second inning followed by a walk to Oliver Andrews. Gavin Palombo hit into a fielder’s choice with Andrews out at second as Lorenz advanced to third base. Dicecco helped himself with a line double to left which scored Lorenz and Palombo.

The score remained 2-0 until EP erupted for 6 runs in the fourth inning. Andrews reached on an infield single followed by a Palombo line drive single to left field. Dicecco then singled to load the bases for the Townies. Jayden Healey singled on a deep fly to center which scored Andrews keeping the bases loaded. Aidan Martins walked to force in a run and Tim Robitaille also walked bringing in another run. Colin Roche then lined a single to left which plated Martins and Healey. After a Mountie pitching change, Nolan Lorenz hit a sharp single which scored Robitaille on an error.

East Providence would score two more runs in the top of the seventh with Andrews and Dicecco scoring and Dicecco would sit down the Mounties in order in their half of the seventh to nail down the Townies 5th win in their last 6 games for an 11-3 record. Ep had 11 hits from nine different players. Nolan Lorenz and Dicecco each had two hits.

The Townies face a key week with two games back-to-back against undefeated Westerly High. EP travels to Westerly on Tuesday May 14th for a 5:00 pm game at Cimalore Field (10 Wilson Street). The two teams will play again on Wednesday May 15th at EPHS in a 6:00 pm clash. Westerly and East Providence are in the thick of a battle for the Division lead heading into state playoffs.

“We’ve put it all together with recent wins,” said Townie head coach Bobby Rodericks. “Next week will be a key in playoff seeding. We need to keep it going,” added the Townie coach.

On a sad note, the Townie coach was remembering Jimmy Mello who passed away this week. "Jimmy Mello was one of the two or three people who kept Pierce Stadium in the top condition it was in. Jimmy always accommodated Townie baseball for whatever we needed at Pierce. He was a great supporter who is already sorely missed by many. Townie baseball sends its sincere condolences to the Mello family," said a somber Rodericks after the game.
