EPHS Tennis, Volleyball, Baseball, Track, Softball & more in Busy Week

EPHS Girls LAX 5-5:
East Providence defeated Providence Country Day 18-3 this week, improving their record to date to 5-5. Katherine Almeida had 4 goals for East Providence with help from Dylan Flynn, Kloey Iacovone Alyssa Karalekas and Kenna Wigginton with 3 goals each. Ava Williams had 9 saves in goal for the Townies.

The boys lacrosse team beat North Providence 10-1. Keigan Grant, Brandon Botelho and Zack Kollett paced the offense. Jacob Leite was solid in net for the townies. The Townies picked up their 4th win on the season. Earlier they beat Cranston East/Johnston 12-0.

EPHS Tennis 9-2:
Thursday May 9th, EPHS tennis defeated Classical 5-2. EP singles winners were: James McShane and John Vaughan. Abigail Ellison and Jayden Amaral just fell short in their matches. In double matches, Jordan O'Hara and Nathan Thurber, Braden Rouette and Judith Petion won for the Townies. Earlier on Tuesday East Providence shut out Providence Country Day 7-0. The Townies beat Narragansett 6-1 at the end of April.

“Today (Friday) is the Main Draw at Slater Park where James McShane will play Hendricken's 1st singles,” said Townie coach Slade Sharma. “I think he has a good chance at surprising some folks. James is playing well for us and is one of the top players in our division.” The Reporter is waiting for today’s outcome as of this writing. EPHS tennis has made it to the Division Championship for the past two years.

EPHS Girls & Boys Track:
Earlier this week the girls track team competed in the Eastern Divisionals. The team placed 2nd in the division scoring 120.5 points. The 4x100m relay consisting of Nazarae Phillip, Kandace Daniel, Kendra Daniel, and Aliyah Evora earned 1st place. Outstanding performers were Keira Mullen, Layla Bates, Rylie Souto, Taraji Malcome, Wendy Monteiro, Whitney Monteiro, Audrey Lepine, Katherine Patalano, Sadie Gagnon, Nadine Fortes, and Melanie Sotomayor.

The boys outdoor track & field team finished fourth in the eastern division championship. the following boys placed during the meet: cam evora 2nd in the long jump & 7th in the high jump, Brandyn Van Wagner 2nd in the triple jump, Jaidin Ivy 2nd in the 400 meter, Justin Jardine 3rd in the 400 meter & 5th in the 200 meter, the 4x400 meter relay consisting of Julius Cortes, Mac Prevete, Justin Jardine, and Jaidin Ivy 3rd place, Julius Cotes 5th place in the 400 meter, Stephane Mardy 5th place in the pole vault, the 4x 800 meter relay consisting of Will Anthony, Will Massey, Giuseppe Belanger, and Ryan Cahoon 6th place, Jack Pawlik 6th in the 100 meter & 8th in the triple jump, Dylan Slavick 6th place in the high jump, Logan Xavier 6th in the javelin, Michael Precious 4th in the hammer.

EPHS Softball:
The Townie softball team lost to Moses Brown on Thursday. Moses Brown opened the scoring in the top of the first with two singles. The Quakers first got on the board when Julianna Masse singled, scoring one run. The Townies tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a walk by Audrey Bernard, and a single by Marianna Pina but Moses Brown jumped into the lead in the top of the fifth with four runs. The Quakers then scored five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning.

Shelby Quinn, Marianna Pina, Sylvie Patterson, and Trinity Provencher each collected one hit for East Providence and Quinn, Pina, and Audrey Bernard each drove in one run for East Providence. The Townies did work MB pitching collecting five walks.

Earlier this week on Tuesday, EP dropped a see-saw affair against visiting Smithfield, falling to the Sentinels by a 13-9 count n a Division I contest. The Sentinels were quick out of the gate, scoring twice in the top of the first. The Townies answered with five of their own in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Smithfield went back on top with a four spot in the second, but EP again answered with a pair in the bottom of the frame to get back out in front 7-6. The Sentinels retook the lead by adding five more runs in the fifth. The Townies had a response but scored just two to still trail 11-9. Smithfield added a pair of insurance tallies in the seventh. Trinity Provencher had three of the Townies' 12 hits. She also scored twice. Marianna Pina drove in three on two hits. Shelby Quinn had two RBI on a pair of hits as did Emma Boisseau, who also scored two times. Audrey Bernard had a hit, a RBI and scored a pair of runs.

Earlier EP did defeat North Kingstown at home. Trinity Provencher went 3 for 4 at the plate, driving in 5 runs, including a two run homerun. Cassie Dulude had 2 rbi's, while Nethania Figueroa had one. Mariann Pina earned the win for the Townies in the circle. Dulude collected the save.

EPHS Baseball 10-3:
The Townies bopped Woonsocket in consecutive games this week. On Thursday night at home, the Townies defeated Woonsocket 9-1 for the Townies tenth win. Timothy Robitaille collected three hits in four at bats, as East Providence beat the Villa Novans twice in the week. Robitaille singled in the first, second and 5th innings. East Providence won thanks in part to seven runs in the first inning. Robitaille singled, scoring two runs, Nolan Lorenz doubled, scoring one run, Oliver Andrews singled, scoring one run, Gavin Palombo singled, scoring one run, Tyler Dicecco singled, scoring one run, and Aidan Martins grounded out, scoring one run.

Pitcher Dylan Annicelli earned the win for East Providence going the distance on the mound. Annicelli struck out 6, walked 2 and only gave up 4 hits. East Providence accumulated 15 hits in the game. Colin Roche, Kyler Lorenz, and Martins each collected multiple hits for East Providence. The Townies also played great defense and turned two double plays in the game.

East Providence will take on Mt. St. Charles this Saturday morning at 10:30 am. Mt. St. Charles is the home team but the game will be played at East Providence High School.

EPHS Boys Volleyball 10-4:
The boys volleyball team defeated Barrington on Monday, 3 games to 2. The team was led by DJ Lepine with 20 kills and 12 digs and Jordan Rodriguez 18 kills and 11 digs. Loden Broe had 42 assists. Earlier EP shut out Woonsocket 3-0. However the team was stopped by Cranston West in a 3-0 loss. “The boys struggled to pass and find consistency tonight and dropped the match to Cranston West,” coach Dan Cabral said after the loss. “Franklin Lopez with his best match to date and had 5 kills.”
