It took an extra inning, but the Townies baseball squad moved to 8-2 on the season with a walk-off victory over St. Raphael Academy in a night game at East Providence High School on Wednesday night. With the game tied at 5, freshman Aidan Martins led off the bottom of the 8th with a hard single to left field. Kyler Lorenz grounded to 3rd base moving Martins to 2nd on the sacrifice. Tim Robitaille was hit by a pitch and Colin Roche flied out to centerfield. Up next was Nolan Lorenz whose line drive single to center field scored Aidan Martins with the winning run.

East Providence took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Tyler Dicecco walked, and Gavin Palombo’s bunt single moved Dicecco to 2nd base. Martins grounded into a fielder’s choice as Dicecco was out going to 3rd with Palombo going to 2nd base. Kyler Lorenz then doubled to center field scoring Palombo. Robitaille was hit by a pitch and Roche struck out to end the inning.

St. Raphael tied the game at 1 in the top of the third when Tremblay singled to left and scored on a Fernandes single to right field. In the top of the 4th, the Saints scored two runs to take a 3-1 lead over EP. After a single and bunt Smith and Cherniawski both crossed the plate.

Trailing 3-1 going into the bottom of the 5th, East Providence scored four runs to take a 5-3 lead. Kyler Lorenz singled followed by a Robitaille base hit. Roche reached base on an error with Lorenz scoring and Robitaille moving to 3rd base. Lorenz advanced to 3rd on a passed ball and Roche stole 2nd base. Oliver Andrews bunted a fielder’s choice which scored Robitaille and Roche got to 3rd. Brian Rutkowski successfully bunted a fielder’s choice which then scored Roche as Andrews made it to 3rd base. Andrews eventually scored on an error.

EP remained ahead 5-3 until the top of the 7th when Saints tied the game with a couple of walks, a passed ball and a hit batsman. Ep didn’t score in the 7th and held Saints scoreless in the 8th after a fly-out, single and Townie double play. East Providence led off the bottom of the 8th on Martins lead off single, K.
