Culinary Challenge to Benefit Alzheimer’s Association On November 13, 2019

10th annual competition raises money for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research

The Alzheimer’s Association Rhode Island Chapter is hosting its annual Culinary Challenge on Wednesday, November 13th at Rhodes on the Pawtucket in Cranston, R.I. The event starts with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the chef’s tasting at 6:15 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Rhode Island Chapter.

Now in its 10th year, the Culinary Challenge features chefs from assisted living and healthcare facilities throughout the state competing in a gourmet food cook-off in front of a panel of judges. Prizes are awarded for “Best Taste” and “Best Display.” Attendees will also sample the chefs’creative recipes for appetizers, main dishes and desserts, and vote on their favorites for a “People’s Choice” award.

This year’s judges include Chef Frank Terranova, WPRI-TV/Fox Providence News Anchor Mike Montecalvo, Miss Rhode Island 2019 Molly Andrade, PVDonuts Co-Owner Paul Kettelle, and University Club Executive Chef Gary Comella.

The event will also feature raffles and entertainment from DJ Ray Arruda.

“This event gives chefs who work in the assisted living and healthcare communities an opportunity to be creative and show off their culinary skills, and it’s fun to watch them compete for the awards,” said Donna McGowan, Executive Director of the Alzheimer’s Association Rhode Island Chapter. “But most importantly, the Culinary Challenge generates funds that help support the programs and services we provide for people living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers here in Rhode Island.”

Tickets cost $35 each or $30 for 10 or more; $50 at the door, and can be purchased online at alz.org/ri/events or by calling 401-421-0008.

There is still some availability for chefs to participate. The $100 entry fee includes a marketing table for their facility. For more information, contact Bella Garcia at agarcia@alz.org.
