Friends Of Library Offer Collectors’ Corner: Classics & Finds

Volunteer members of Friends of the East Providence Public Library have gathered more than 100 special or unusual books that have been donated by library patrons. These collectible books will be available at the Fall Book Sale October 13 to 16, 2022.

A list of some of these special books is available on the Friends of the East Providence Library web page on the East Providence Public Library website, www.eastprovidencelibrary.org.  Just click on About, then Friends of the Library. The books are listed with a short description and price on the site. Dozens of books are featured on a wide variety of topics. More are added as they arrive.

Among the current books offered in Interesting Finds. Section of the Collectors’ Corner are an early edition of The Decoration of Houses by Edith Wharton. This 1902 book is considered the first American handbook on interior design. It is priced at $75. An. 1894 edition of A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers by Henry David Thoreau recounts a boat voyage from Concord, MA to Concord, NH. It sells for $15. Pudd’nhead Wilson: Those Extraordinary Twins is an 1894 novel by Mark Twain. It is the first novel to make use of fingerprinting in crime detection and is priced at $40. The Singing Sioux Cowboy Reader by Ann Clark is a U.S. Indian Service Dept. of the Interior bi-lingual reader “prepared primarily for use in Federal Indian schools.” It sells for $15. Among the classics offered are a number of The Easton Press leather-bound books, including Little Women, Gone with the Wind and Fathers and Sons for $15. A complete 20-volume set of the Harvard Classics sells for $25.

Collector’s Corner books will be available at the Fall Book Sale at Weaver Library October 12 to 16.
