Henry S. Hayward, 93 of Tryon Avenue, Rumford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Saturday, October 17, 2020 twelve days shy of his 94th birthday. He was the beloved husband of 73 years of the love of his life, Mary (Dourado) Hayward.

He was born in East Providence and lived there his entire life. He was the son of the late Marion (Dawes) Hayward.

Henry was a WWII Veteran serving in the United States Navy. He loved and respected the military, and you would often see him wearing his US Navy hat with pride.

Henry was all about the love and caring of his family. He truly believed that family was the center of all and enjoyed every opportunity to be with and talk with them.

He leaves two daughters, Joan Rutan and her husband John of Denton, Texas; Sheila Dyer and her husband Donald of Rehoboth; and a son (former East Providence Mayor) Mark S. Hayward and his wife Nancy of Seekonk. Four grandchildren, Julie James and her husband Jed of Dighton, Patrick Hayward and his wife Stephanie of Cumberland and Kelsey and her partner Angelica of Seekonk and Megan Hayward of Seekonk. He also leaves three great-grandchildren Ryan, Olivia, and John Patrick.

He worked for 45 years at the Narragansett Electric Company until his retirement in 1993. Most of his service coming at Narragansetts’ South Street Station.

He was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Rumford. All services and arrangements for Henry will be private. Burial will be at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Providence.
