Save The Bay unveils remote camp options for Summer 2020

Zoom Into Narragansett Bay and Shore To Your Door camp programs connect campers to Narragansett Bay from home

Providence, R.I. – June 25, 2020 – In lieu of traditional camps, Save The Bay is offering remote camp opportunities to youth of all ages this summer! The organization’s Zoom Into Narragansett Bay and Shore To Your Door camp programs will bring Save The Bay-led lessons and activities right into campers’ homes, allowing participants to engage with Narragansett Bay throughout the season.

“While we are suspending our in-person camps this year due to COVID-19, Save The Bay’s education team is dedicated to using all of the tools and resources at our disposal to offer meaningful, fun, and educational experiences to our campers this summer,” said Save The Bay’s director of education, Bridget Prescott.

Zoom Into Narragansett Bay—a live, remote experience—invites campers who have completed grades 2-12 to log on with Save The Bay two days a week. Campers will log on together, before breaking into grade-level groups for three hours of learning and fun with Save The Bay educators.

“We hope this live experience allows campers to engage with our educators, to see the outdoor environments they would have usually visited in-person, and to tune in to the BayCamp experience,” explained Save The Bay’s public program manager, Jennifer Kelly.

Each week of the Zoom Into Narragansett Bay program revolves around a different environmental theme, ranging from “Habitats” and “Adaptations,” to “Biodiversity” and “Going Green.”

“Our Zoom Into Narragansett Bay campers can look forward to Bay-based lessons; special guest appearances from our Exploration Center and Aquarium; exploratory games and activities; and more,” added Kelly. “All of our campers will also be receiving a free 'Narragansett Bay Naturalist Guide' to accompany their experience!”

Younger campers in completed grades K-1 have a camp option all their own. The Shore To Your Door program delivers two weeks’ worth of crafts and activities directly to campers’ residences via a program kit. Complete with craft materials, links to sing-along videos, activity sheets, and more, this self-guided option offers hours of environmental entertainment to Save The Bay’s most junior campers.

Families interested in registering a camper for either Zoom Into Narragansett Bay or Shore To Your Door can do so by visiting Save The Bay’s website at www.savebay.org/camp. Registration rates are $60/week for Save The Bay members and $75/week for non-members. Questions can be directed to Jennifer Kelly at jkelly@savebay.org.

Additional summer activities for families and youth include Save The Bay’s self-directed summer activity book, the “Narragansett Bay Naturalist Guide,” and virtual Exploration Center and Aquarium tours. More information on these programs is available at www.savebay.org/summer-2020.
