CONFIRMED: State Police Not at EP City Hall

Posted

Council Members not involved in City Hall investigation. No State Police involvement either.

It has now been learned that the investigation into East Providence City Hall, involving some employee computers is only being investigated by City Management Officials. The State Police have not been involved.

"The State Police have definitely not been at City Hall," Lemont said emphatically in a late day interview. "Tell your sources they're wrong." When asked about an investigation, Lemont said that he was ordering it.

It is believed that personnel leaks of information to the community is the main reason for Mr. Lemont's concerns.

Several council members were upset that there was an appearance of city council involvement by earlier references in Reporter articles. At no time has any council member been linked to whatever is going on in City Hall. Any photos or comments in prior articles were not directed at council members.

"Yes, I'm the one who asked for this inquiry. There is no State Police involved. I was concerned about leaks from this building and it's a personnel matter, I don't want to talk about," Lemont told the Reporter.

This reporter wants to clarify that no involvement of city council members have been implied by those reporting that an investigation at City Hall is ongoing. This reporter is also not alleging a connection to council members, although it is understood how a distinction could be inferred from original reports.

"We as council members can not get involved in hiring or any aspects of personnel," said one councilman upset with reports in this matter. The council can only get involved with the hiring/firing of a City manager by city charter.

Updates on this investigation will continue.
