EPHS Baseball Knocks off 1st Place N. Kingstown 2-1

Townies Play Today at 5 pm in Wakefield vs. SK:

North Kingstown came to Pierce Field with their Division leading 11-1 record on Tuesday, May 12th. The 5-6 East Providence Townie baseball team has been finding their way during their first year back in Division One league play. After graduating two all-state pitchers last year and other key seniors from their Division Two state champion team, EP has relied a lot on pitcher Kyle Marquis. Marquis has two no-hitters this year and has become a dominating pitcher for the Townies.

EP didn't give Marquis a lot of support during the game as they scored their only two runs in the 2nd inning. Adam Duarte reached base on a NK error and advanced to 2nd base when Tyler Lockard got to 1st base on another NK error. Tyler Benedetti grounded out moving Duarte and Lockard to 3rd and 2nd base respectively. Tyler Maxwell singled to score Duarte with Lockard getting to 3rd base. Derek Silva grounded out to 3B scoring Lockard. On another ground ball by Kam Gianlorenzo, Maxwell was caught in a run down between third and home, eventually being tagged out. That would be all the offense EP would need for the day.

North Kingstown scored 1 run in the 4th inning but was held at bay by Marquis who had 4 strikeouts while allowing just 7 hits for the Division leading Skippers for the complete game victory. EP catcher Mike Allienello played another solid game with a key tag out at home plate and a couple of snuffed out steal attempts at 2nd base.

The Townies (6-6) travel to South Kingstown (6-6) for a key game today at 5 pm, Thursday, at Old Mountain Field in Wakefield.
