EPHS Baseball Wins Opening Day Game on Dramatic Allienello Homer!

East Providence High School won its'first game of the 2014 season in a close fought game against a scrappy Juanita Sanchez High School in Providence. The Townies jumped out to a 1-0 lead by scoring in the first inning and scored again in the second for a 2-0 lead which held until Sanchez tied the game with two runs in the 5th inning.

With the game tied at 2, EP put two runners on in the 7th inning. Always steady Townie catcher, Mike Allienello came to the plate. Sanchez changed pitchers to bring in a fresh arm against the Townies catcher. Allienello quickly launched a drive to left center field which sailed over the fence. The three-run home run gave the Townies a 5-2 lead which winning pitcher, Keith Grant preserved in the bottom half of the 7th.

Grant got the complete game victory in a game in which he threw 114 pitches and had 16 strikeouts.
