EP's Marquis No-Hits Johnston for 1-0 Win

East Providence High School Baseball moved to 2-1 in Division 1 play Tuesday with an exciting 1-0 win over Johnston High. Kyle Marquis pitched a no-hitter going the distance in the Townie win. "It felt good to win, especially after my shaky start with 3 walks in the first inning," said the Townie ace after the game. "The coaches talked to me and told me to bend more. It seemed to work as my fast ball and slider began to work well," Marquis added. "We had great defense also."

Going into the bottom of the 5th inning the game was scoreless. Adam Duarte laced a long double to deep left center and was bunted over to 3rd by Tyler Maxwell. Jordon Gibson hit a sacrifice fly to right-center which scored Duarte with what would be the winning run.

Marquis held down Johnston in the last inning on a ground out to 2nd base, a walk and then two strike outs to end the game. After the game Marquis said that his team "deserved to be back in Division 1 play. We're where we should be, we have a shot to make playoffs," Marquis said.

Defending Division II state champion coach and recently named Rhode Island Baseball Coach of the Year, Bobby Rodericks was pleased at the win. "It was a good win, the team never gave up. Kyle pitched well, we had good defense and we're improving," Rodericks said. "It should be a challenging but fun season for us."
