ASRI November 2016 Programs and Events for Children and Families

(October 7, 2016) – Give thanks for all that nature provides! Bring the older kids for an owl prowl and the younger bunch for an animal tale or nature walk. Enjoy the spirit of the season at Audubon this November. Unless noted, registration is required for all programs. November 2, 2016 Animal Tales
10:00 - 11:00 am
Enjoy a nature story with your preschooler each month. Programs include a story with a nature lesson followed by a craft. Often a live animal comes to visit! See below for dates and times.

November 12, 2016 Fairy Houses and Gnome Homes

Use natural materials such as shells, seeds, moss and stones to create an enchanting home for magical guests. Fairy houses and gnome homes make a unique holiday or winter decoration and are great for creative play. Children are welcome to come dressed in fairy or gnome costumes! Program includes all materials. Advance registration is required. Adult must attend with child.

November 15 & 16, 2016 Junior Naturalists for Home-schooled Families

NEW- Audubon’s popular home-school program now has extended class time. That means more time for outdoor exploration, so dress for the weather!
Join other home-schooled kids to learn about nature and science. This program introduces participants to a different topic each class, with hands-on experiments and nature-based activities that are sure to foster a love of the natural world. Classes are limited to 15 children, so please register early. Adult must attend with child.
November 15 & 16, 2016: Squid Dissection

November 20, 2016 Audubon Owl Prowl at Mays Refuge
Audubon Maxwell Mays Wildlife Refuge
Coventry, RI 7:00 – 9:00 pm
Bundle up and join us for a night hike on the Maxwell Mays Refuge in search of owls. We will call for different species as we travel through mixed and pine woods. While we never know if we'll actually get to hear or see an owl, participants will be sure to learn a lot and have a great night hike. Wear warm clothing and shoes or boots. Bring a flashlight. For families with children twelve years and older.

Give thanks for all that nature has given us. The day after Thanksgiving is for leftovers, but at Audubon it is also a day to rediscover why nature matters. Come for fun activities for the whole family. No registration is needed.

November 26, 2016 Eco-stories and Art

Bring a snack and relax while an Audubon naturalist reads a nature story. Then create a unique work of art from different recyclable materials and found objects. Will it be a bouquet of flowers made from plastic bottles? A bird’s nest made from scrap paper and yarn? Join us and find out! No registration required.
