On May 23, 2012 at 10:00am, the Beautification Commission hosted a tree planting ceremony to commemorate Arbor Day 2012 at JRD Oldham Elementary School, located at Bullocks Point Ave in Riverside, RI. The school was hand selected for this special event. The tree planting ceremony followed school assembly, where invited dignitaries met with students who presented art projects, recited poetry and sang and read in their own words, writings about Arbor Day. Attendees included School Committee members, City Council members, and "Woodsy the Owl" made an appearance.

Oldham Elementary School Principal, Kathleen Caffrey says, "The beautiful, stately trees have found a home here on the grounds of the JRD Oldham Elementary School. I am sure it will provide us with pleasure for many, many years."
