Local College Student Earns Scholarship From Consolidated Concrete Corp.

Posted

Consolidated Concrete Corp., the area’s largest producer of concrete mix, environmentally safe flowable fill and landscaping/retaining wall blocks, has named its 2015 college student scholarship recipient. Amy Cinquegrana of East Providence, a student at New England Institute of Technology (NEIT) studying to be a surgical technician, has received $1,000 towards furthering her higher education. She will be entering into her final year at NEIT, after which she will receive her associate in science degree.

The Scholarship Foundation of East Providence selects two East Providence residents each year to receive a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Consolidated Concrete Corp. to use towards their higher education.

Cinquegrana graduated from East Providence High School in 2012 with a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. It was here where she first heard about the scholarship opportunity. Since then, she obtained her Med Tech license from the University of Rhode Island, and is now dispensing medication at Brookdale East Bay Assisted Living in Riverside, where she has worked for the past three years.

While studying at NEIT and working at Brookdale East Bay Assisted Living, Cinquegrana has applied for this scholarship every year since she was a senior in high school by completing the application and writing an essay. “I was really excited to hear that I earned it this year,” states Cinquegrana. “It helps with getting all of my books. That’s a big part of the college expense.,” she adds.

“Here at Consolidated, we believe that it is very important to help the next generation, and the best way to start is right here in East Providence, in our backyard,” states Bob Pesce, owner and president of Consolidated Concrete.

The generosity of Consolidated Concrete Corporation will not go unnoticed. Cinquegrana’s next career goal is to work at a local hospital as a surgical technician while studying to be a registered nurse. “My grandfather is a doctor and my grandmother is a nurse. It’s in my blood,” she says. “I’ve always known I wanted to be in the medical field.”
