Local High School Graduate Earns Scholarship From Consolidated Concrete Corp.

Posted

Consolidated Concrete Corp., the area’s largest producer of concrete mix, environmentally safe flowable fill and landscaping/retaining wall blocks, has named its 2015 high school student scholarship recipient. East Providence resident and incoming sports management student at Johnson & Wales University, Samantha Aspinwall, has received $1,000 to put towards her higher education.

The Scholarship Foundation of East Providence selects two East Providence residents each year to receive a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Consolidated Concrete Corp. to use towards their higher education.

Aspinwall graduated in June 2015 from St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, where she demonstrated her passion for knowledge by taking advanced college placement classes. It was at St. Raphael that Aspinwall’s guidance counselor recommended that she apply for the scholarship to help her pursue her future dreams in the sports industry.

Sports have always been a necessary and treasured part of Aspinwall’s life, which she exhibits by playing volleyball and watching both football and basketball whenever she can find the time. Consolidated Concrete Corp. is grateful to help Aspinwall as she attends Johnson & Wales, the only school in Rhode Island that offers a sports management degree.

“I wasn’t sure I wanted to go to Johnson & Wales until I toured it and I loved it,” says Aspinwall, “Then it was the only school I applied to. I am very excited about starting college this fall.”

Bob Pesce, owner and president of Consolidated Concrete Corp., is always happy to see the next generation get the education they deserve. “We feel strongly that by supporting students, starting in our own backyard, we are helping them work toward a great future,” he says.

“I was so excited to get the award letter in the mail.,” states Aspinwall, “It will really help.”
