Rep. Kazarian Receives Legislative Award from National Association of Social Workers

Posted

State House – At their 2015 annual awards celebration on June 24, the Rhode Island chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) honored Rep. Katherine S. Kazarian (D-Dist. 63, East Providence) with their 2015 legislative award.
“It is an honor to be recognized by NASW. They are a tremendous organization that does so much good work for people in need,” said Representative Kazarian. “I will always be an advocate on their behalf.”
Representative Kazarian was honored by NASW partly due to her sponsorship of 2015-H 5495, which would require all public schools in grades kindergarten through grade twelve to have at least one full-time certified school social worker for every 400 students.
“Although my bill has stalled this legislative session, I can promise the association, the children and their parents that I will be reintroducing this legislation next year and I will be continuing the fight to make sure our state’s children have the adequate and proper care that they need and deserve within their school systems,” added Representative Kazarian. “There have been far too many tragedies within our country’s schools in the recent years and social workers are the first line of defense in making sure such atrocities do not happen again. Thank you for all your service and I look forward to working with you for many more years to come.”
Rick Harris, executive director of the chapter, made the presentation awarding Representative Kazarian.
