BridgePointe Hosts Back to School Drive-Thru Event to Benefit East Providence Elementary Students and Families
August 19, 2020, (East Providence, RI)— Elementary students in East Providence elementary schools will receive free backpacks, school supplies, face masks, dental kits and other fun items, as well as a healthy dose of encouragement for the upcoming school year at BridgePointe’s Back to School Drive-Thru event. The free event will be held over the course of three nights, August 25, 26, and 27, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at BridgePointe Christian Church in East Providence.
BridgePointe held its first Back to School Fair in 2013 and the annual event has been a community highlight since then. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual event needed a makeover - gone are the bounce houses, medical screenings, pancake breakfast and thousands of people gathered together. Instead, a drive-thru event held at BridgePointe over the course of a couple nights and featuring some strong community partnerships, has became the solution for 2020.
Families that have students in East Providence public elementary schools have been invited to attend on the night that their school is being served: Kent Heights, Myron J. Francis and Waddington schools on Tuesday, August 25th, Whiteknact and Hennessey schools on Wednesday, August 26th, and Orlo and Silver Springs schools will attend on August 27th.
RSVP is required, and registration is available at https://bpri.church/backtoschool.
BridgePointe’s congregation has donated backpacks and school supplies and man-power for the event. We’re proud and excited to announce the many other community partners who are contributing to the event:
- Hand sanitizer, face masks, and dental kits for kids from United Health, as well as Parent Bags stocked with items to support parents
- Headphones for students are donated by Camp Ellie Mae
- Water bottles for students from the East Providence Complete Count Census
- Flower pots and seed starters from Weaver Library in East Providence
Additional event sponsors include Walmart and the Kenny Irwin Junior Foundation.
