St. Margaret School Welcomes Newly Elected Student Council Members

[Rumford, RI] – St. Margaret School is excited to announce the election of its new Student Council members for the 2024-2025 school year. These dedicated students will serve as leaders, representing their peers and fostering a spirit of community within the school.

The election took place on Monday, September 30, 2024, when students cast their votes for candidates who demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and a commitment to enhancing the school environment. The elected members are:

President: Sophia Hagopian (North Attleboro, MA)
Vice President: Layla Price (Rumford, RI)
Secretary: Philip Shea (Pawtucket, RI)
Treasurer: Jameson Cournoyer (Central Falls, RI)
Grade 8 Class Representatives: Brendan Cute (Rumford, RI), Wyatt Goldstein (Providence, RI)
Grade 7 Class Representatives: Kolton Fortin (Rehoboth, MA), Stella Hagopian (North Attleboro), Noah Pedroso-Jones (Pawtucket, RI), Patrick Shea (Pawtucket, RI)
Grade 6 Class Representatives: Arya Dhakal (Pawtucket), Kayla Walsh (Seekonk, MA)

"I am proud of the hard work and dedication that each representative and officer brings to the student council, and I am excited to see the ways they will positively contribute to the school community this year," said Bethany Bessette, Student Council Advisor.

The Student Council will be involved in planning school events, promoting community service projects, and serving as a voice for the student body. “I remember being in first grade, when my cousin, who was also my buddy, was elected to Student Council,” said Sophia Hagopian, President, “since then I have been hoping to be a part of the Board.”

Their first project is to raise money for the victims of the recent hurricanes in the South. In speaking of how the group will work together, Secretary Philip Shea offered, “These are my best friends. Together we are going to accomplish a lot!”


St. Margaret School is committed to providing a nurturing environment where students can develop their leadership skills and engage meaningfully with their peers. The Student Council plays a vital role in this mission.

The 2024-2025 St. Margaret School Student Council will be inducted following an all-school mass on Wednesday, October 16 at 9:15 AM at St. Margaret Church in Rumford.
