East Providence High Softball Win: Townies fight back with impressive offensive rally to take down Bay View after losing an early big lead.
East Providence softball scored six runs in the top of the first inning to topple neighboring Bay View Academy 19-9 in a Thursday afternoon game. The Townies scored one more in the second, four more in the fourth and another two in the sixth. Mackenzie Pimentel led off the game with a single for East Providence. Audrey Bernard singled, one of her three game hits, and Pimentel scored on an ensuing error. Emma Boisseau reached on an error and courtesy runner Welch advanced and then stole home for a run. Runs were scored after Cassie Dulude grounded out for an RBI and Sylvie Patterson knocked in two runs. Nethania Figueroa singled, scoring one run, and Ava Silva drew a walk, scoring one run. When the dust settled, East Providence had a 6-0 lead after a half inning of play.

Bay View went down quickly in their half of the first after two fly-outs to EP centerfielder Trinity Provencher and a ground ball out to the mound. In the top of the second, Ella Grimley led off with a walk and reached second base on a Bernard line drive infield hit. Grimley then scored on an infield hit to make the score 7-1, but the inning ended when Bernard was out attempting a steal of home.

The game took a turn in Bay View’s favor when the Bengals scored 8 runs in the second inning. Bay View scored 8 runs on 6 hits and took an 8-7 lead. The score would remain at 8-7 until the Townies rallied with four runs in the top of the fourth and six more in the fifth. East Providence would add two in the sixth to finish off Bay View with the 19-9 win.

The Townies fourth inning runs came when Audrey Bernard singled, scoring one run, Cassie Dulude grounded out, scoring two runs, and Sylvie Patterson grounded out, scoring one run. In the fifth inning, East Providence scored six runs on four hits. Bernard drew a walk, scoring one run, Boisseau doubled, scoring two runs, Bernard then scored after tagging up on a fly, Sylvie Patterson singled, scoring one run, and Nethania Figueroa drew a walk, scoring one run.

Bay View’s lone run in the sixth was not enough and the Townies took the 19-9 win in an offensive barrage over the Bengals. Cassie Dulude was the winning pitcher, striking out 7 and walking just one over 4 1/3 innings. M Pina finished up for EP on the mound.

East Providence had 16 hits while Bay View amassed 11. For the Townies, Sylvie Patterson, Cassie Dulude, and Emma Boisseau each drove in three runs. Bernard was three for three with two RBI and scored three times. Provencher had two big hits for an RBI and scored two runs. The Townies drew 10 walks. East Providence runners stole seven bases and made no errors. East Providence will play next at Moses Brown on Tuesday.

EPHS Baseball rally fall short against Hendricken:
East Providence and Bishop Hendricken did not play one of the season’s best defensive baseball games as a total of 10 errors were committed. Unfortunately for the Townies, they had 7 miscues. A couple errors may have been to balls lost in a strong sun, but nevertheless, the errors hurt. With Hendricken ace Patrick Clemmey on the mound, East Providence loaded the bases in the top of the first but couldn’t capitalize on the scoring opportunity. Aidan Martins drew a leadoff walk followed by an infield single. Oliver Andrews walked to load the bases for EP. A strikeout and a fielder’s choice stopping the run at home, followed by a strikeout, ended the Townie’s scoring threat.

Hendricken took advantage and scored two in their half of the first. A leadoff walk, a strikeout and two wild pitches advanced the Hawks runner to third. An infield out to shortstop brought in the run for a 1-0 early lead. A steal attempt of third led to an error and the runner came home for the second Hawk run.

The Townies got a run back when they scored in the second. After two quick outs for East Providence, Chris Charbonneau slapped a hard ball to shortstop and reached base on an error. On a subsequent error by Clemmy, Charbonneau raced to third base and then scored when Aidan Martins slashed a base hit to right field. A strikeout ended the inning with Hendricken leading 2-1.

The home team came back and put three runs on the board to take a second inning 5-1 lead. A couple of walks, a strikeout were followed by a double and another Townie error as the score grew to a Hawk 8-1 advantage after three innings. But the Hawk scoring for the game ended at that point.

East Providence rallied for four runs in the top of the fourth. Charbonneau led off the fourth with a walk – one of his three on the day. Martins followed with a walk and both runners advanced a base on a Clemmy wild pitch. Oliver Andrews walked and Charbonneau scored on another wild pitch. After a Hawk pitching change, Brian Rutkowski drew a walk and then Martins scored from third on a passed ball. Tyler Dicecco laced a double to right field scoring Andrews and Tim Robitaille lined a hard out to end the Townie rally as the score was now 8-5.

Neither team scored again and Hendricken took the game 8-5. Dicecco had two RBI with a double and Gavin Palombo, Brian Rutkowski and Aidan Martins each added a hit. Charbonneau had three of the Townie’s nine walks for the game. Clemmy gave up three hits and four runs while striking out eight and walking six Townies. The Hawk ace pitched 3 1/3 innings for the win and Greg Fleury picked up the save pitching the rest.

Townie starter Dicecco went 2 2/3 innings allowing six hits while striking out4 and walking 4. Tim Robitaille stopped Hendricken in 3 1/3 innings in relief allowing no hits, no runs and struck out three but walked five.
