Acts of Kindness
Stop by the library April 18-30 to pick “kindness” ideas from a jar at the front desk and/or post your ideas or good deeds on our “Random Acts of Kindness” tree.

Pen Pals: The Blanding will be hosting a program to connect people experiencing social isolation with community volunteers willing to exchange correspondence. Introductory meetings for people who are interested in participating will be on April 16 at 1 p.m. and April 21 at 7 p.m.  Call or stop by the library for more information or if you know of someone who would benefit from this program.

Paperback Sale on May 21
The Friends of the Library will be holding a paperback book sale on Sat. May 21 from 11 to 2. Donations of used paperbacks in good condition for this sale will be greatly appreciated.

Also, a big Thank You to all who donated and/or bought jewelry and helped out at our sale in March, making this event a very successful fundraiser to support library programs.

May Baskets April 30
The Friends of the Blanding Library and the Rehoboth Garden Club will offer a program on making May baskets on Sat. April 30 at 11 a.m.  A representative from the garden club will present a history of the May basket. Participants will then create their own May baskets. All supplies will be provided courtesy of the Friends of the Library. After you make your basket, you can pass it on to someone who would enjoy this act of kindness. This program is free and open to anyone 12 and older, but space is limited. Call the library at 508-252-4236 to register.

Dragon and Tiger Qigong
Classes will be offered on Wednesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. this spring on Qigong, an ancient Chinese system of movement which helps develop balance and coordination. These free sessions will be held weekly in Goff Hall from April 6 through May 25.

Great Book Hunt
The Blanding has been awarded a grant from the Rehoboth Cultural Council for a book hunt.  Artist renderings of popular book covers will be placed throughout town weekly. Several local artists have already signed up, but it’s not too late to donate your artistic talent to this project. Please contact the Blanding Library 508-252-4236 for more information.

Cardio Dance in April
Cardio dance classes will be offered at the library on Wed. April 13, 20, and 27 at 6 p.m. with certified dance instructors. Come to one or all of the classes. These free programs are open to those ages 12 and up. Please call the library to register. This event is sponsored by the Rehoboth Cultural Council.

Blanding Book Club
The Blanding Book Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. Copies of the chosen books are available at the circulation desk. New members are always welcome.

Living Literature April 28
Living Literature will present an interpretation of “Rising: Dispatches from the New American Shore” by Elizabeth Rush on Thurs. April 28 at 7 p.m. “Rising” exposes the threats to the shoreline by the effects of climate change on sea level, wetlands and vulnerable shoreline communities. A discussion will follow with a representative from Save the Bay.

Puppets and More in April
Through Me to You Puppetry will perform Tuesday April 19 at 10:30 with Newton and friends, BIG books and songs. This is geared to preschoolers, but siblings are welcome.  Please register for this event, which will take place in the hall.

Story Times on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 are 30-minute sessions for preschoolers with   books, music, and movement. Miss Joyce and Miss Cathy say that numbers are growing so they encourage families to register ahead.

April brings Earth Day, Arbor Day and National Poetry month.  Our children's area will feature a variety of poetry books and activities for all ages during the month. On Thurs. April 21, take part in activities honoring both Earth Day and Arbor Day in Goff Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tables will be set up with various crafts to make, books to check out, and your own seedling (baby tree) to plant at home.  No need to register but supplies may be limited.

Our Story Walk is scheduled to be back welcoming all visitors to share a picture book story page-by-page around the library's front garden.  Springtime may be windy, so come in to choose a Take & Make craft for fun with the wind -- a paper bag kite, a whirly pinwheel, or for those with patience, a wind-chime.  Kits are limited.  Thank you to the Friends of the Library for making it possible to offer the kits and Story Walk.
