Old Bridgewater Historical Society – October lecture announced.

Posted

The Old Bridgewater Historical Society will be hosting a lecture by Barbara Sillery on Thursday, October 20th at 7 p.m. The title of the program is: Haunted Cape Cod, Sea Captains, Ship Captains, and Spirits. It will be held at the OBHS Memorial Building, located at 162 Howard Street in West Bridgewater.

Clipper ships, whaleboats and steamers ventured far. Death took a toll on those who dared to risk the icy waters. This is a collection of their stories, capturing their colorful history based on actual events and people. Some of these fascinating characters linger on. The spirits of sea captains, their wives, children and grandchildren remind us that the past is alive to enrich the present. And you need not be a believer to enjoy these intriguing ghostly tales.

Barbara Sillery is an award-winning television producer, director, and writer with over four dozen documentaries and features for PBS stations across the country. Barbara is also the author of nine books for Pelican/Arcadia and the History Press. Her work has been honored by the American Association for State and Local History, the Tellys, the Suncoast Emmys, Women in Communications, and most recently a First Place Award from the New Orleans Press Club.
Admission to the lecture is $5.

The Old Bridgewater Historical Society, a private organization, started in 1894, is dedicated to the collection, preservation, and publication of history relating to the original Bridgewater township, which includes the towns of Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, and the city of Brockton.
