Possible Vandalism at Dighton Middle School

Posted

Dighton Police are investigating after a sink was left running overnight inside a Dighton Middle School classroom. Officers were called to the middle school Friday morning after school staff discovered several classrooms were flooded.

Dighton Police Chief Shawn Cronin said it appears someone intentionally stuffed a sink with paper towels to prevent it from draining.

Four rooms, including the originating classroom, sustained water damage.

“We are grateful to Dighton Town officials for their prompt response to assist us today,” said Dighton-Rehoboth School Superintendent Bill Runey.

“As Chief Cronin said, it’s very unfortunate,” Runey added. “Our Facilities team and the staff at DMS were true professionals today to adjust to the adversity. Our restoration services vendor went to work immediately.”

In a letter sent to parents, Runey noted: “Town officials have approved our repair plan and have sanctioned the school to continue. We are partnering with the Dighton Police Department on the investigation of the possible vandalism. Anyone with information that may be helpful should contact DPD directly. As more information becomes available, I will update you.”
