Massive Power Outages in Rehoboth Due to Storm

Posted

The heavy winds from Tropical Storm Isaias caused many residents to lose power on Tuesday as tree branches snapped and brought down utility lines. Selectman Michael Costello said as many as 3500 homes were without electricity at one point. National Grid has restored services to the majority of homes, but Costello explained it will take a few days before everyone has their power back.

“They’re doing the best they can,” said selectman chairman Skip Vadnais, who lost power at his home at 4:30 pm Tuesday. Some telephone poles came down in various locations, which blocked access to some roadways. “There were some streets which were heavily damaged more than others,” Costello noted. “It was pretty bad on Ash Street and Carpenter Street. Those were the hardest hit.” Costello said there was no flooding during the storm.

One man was trapped under large tree limbs after he was struck by a falling tree in his yard, according to firefighters. The Rehoboth Fire Department and Rehoboth Ambulance crews responded to the man's home on Reservoir Road to pull him out from underneath the tree. The man was transported to an area hospital.
