Posted

Michael J. Zakowski, 68, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, July 8, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Deborah W. (Ogden) Zakowski for forty-four years. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late John and Evelyn (Dubuc) Zakowski.

Michael worked in precious metal refining for many years at Handy & Harman Electronic Materials Corp. in Attleboro. His passion, however, was his service as a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Seekonk, with the Seekonk Central Volunteer Association. Michael was assigned to Station #3 in Seekonk, where he served the fire department and the town residents for 15 years. He was also a volunteer at both the Seekonk Fire Museum on Newman Ave., Seekonk and the Providence Canteen.

Michael and his family are longtime parishioners of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pawtucket, where he served as an usher. He was a gregarious man, who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially during his large family reunions. Michael was always willing to lend a hand, and he especially enjoyed striking up conversations with friends and neighbors. Michael was quick to make friends with all who had the good fortune to meet him. He will forever be remembered for his dedication to his family, his friends and his service to others.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves a beloved daughter, Jessica L. Zakowski of Pawtucket and much extended family and dear friends.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a Requiem Mass on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket. Interment in his family plot at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence was private. Calling hours and flowers are respectfully omitted. Memorial gifts to the Seekonk Fire Museum, c/o The Central Volunteer Fire Association, 77 Kent St., Seekonk, MA 02771 will be appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to William W. Tripp Funeral Home, Pawtucket.
