Posted

Seekonk — Superintendent Rich Drolet is pleased to invite community members to attend the upcoming Aitken Elementary School open house and ribbon cutting ceremony this weekend.

When:
Saturday, Aug. 28 from noon to 2 p.m.
The open house and guided tours begin at noon with the ribbon cutting ceremony to follow at 1 p.m.
Where:
Aitken Elementary School, 165 Newman Ave.

What:
Seekonk Public Schools will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of the Aitken Elementary School’s new building expansion.

Following a tour of the new wing, a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held with remarks to follow from Superintendent Drolet, Aitken Elementary School Principal John Haidemenos, School Committee Chair and Aitken Expansion Building Committee member Kim Sluter, and Aitken Expansion Building Committee Chair Jackie Proulx.

Light refreshments will be served at the event.

Aitken Elementary School’s newly-completed building expansion boasts a new, state-of-the-art wing with a 10-classroom and seven-bathroom addition. The wing also features a new preschool playground outside and a makerspace as one of the ten classrooms inside.

In Spring 2019, the Town of Seekonk voted in favor of supporting this addition to assist the district with its increasing need for additional space in the district’s two elementary schools. With this new addition, the district will be able to maintain its smaller class sizes, accommodate special programming, and ultimately provide students with the personalized learning and academic rigor that Seekonk families have come to value in Seekonk’s extraordinary school district.

Anyone with questions regarding the event may contact Bridget McNamara at
