Comments on the Proposed Seekonk Senior Center
Beverly Hart

!. It's TOO BIG and TOO FANCY
Fact: It's the same square footage as the present center with all the other locations being used. The design is flexible for different activities and is suited for using energy efficient heating and lighting.
2. IT will raise my TAXES
Fact: For every $100,000 of your house value, you will pay $8.05 a YEAR more. If your house is valued at $300,000, you will pay $ 24.15 as year which means your quarterly tax bill will rise $6.04.
3. I will have to pay this increase FOREVER
Fact: Your payment will DECREASE each year until the "mortgage" is paid (probably 20 years) and then disappear.
4. I may never have to go to the Senior Center
Fact: If you would like local health check-ups (ex. for blood pressure, diabetes, etc.); if you need flu shots; if you would like advice about taxes; if you need family help about agencies for child care, mental illness, or other problems; if you want physical activities to help keep you healthy; or if you would just like the social interaction of lunch, arts and crafts and games you would find these services and more at our Human Services Center if they had a new building without dangerous stairs, no privacy and limited space.

Fact: With interest rates low, our town debt decreasing and more and more people needing help, THIS IS THE RIGHT TIME TO BUILD THE SENIOR CENTER.

Please remember that this article must pass at the June Town meeting with a 2/3 majority.
