90th Birthday Parade

Posted

On November 7th the Rehoboth Senior Citizens Club had a car parade for those members who turned 90 years old this year. Usually we have a dinner and entertainment for them but the virus changed that. My vice-president, Steve Silva and his wife Diane with help from members Joanne Bennett, Patti Craig and Bob Craig organized the wonderful parade. And it was amazing.

The parade proceeded to 4 members’ homes at which Rep. Steven Howitt, Sen. Paul Feeney, and Selectman David Perry presented the birthday proclamations to each of the recipients. Kalifornia Karl sang Happy Birthday while Diane Silva presented the balloons and gift to each of the birthday recipients. It was humbling to see tears in their eyes. They were so happy to have not been forgotten.

The community came together that day for an act of kindness. The Rehoboth Fire Department participated, the Rehoboth Police Department escorted the group, Ralph Arguin took pictures, and many citizens joined the parade.

There were 7 members that turned 90; Shirley Goff, Manny Costa, Dolores Bubier, Beverly Costa, Penny Decker, Mildred Hamlin, and Elizabeth Patterson. Unfortunately 3 live out of state and we were unable to travel to their houses, but we had a surprise when Ray and Penny Decker showed up and joined the parade. That made it even more special.

Thank you to all who made this such a wonderful event!
Lorraine Botts, President
