Posted

On Saturday, September 18th the Seekonk Cultural Council sponsored the first “Celebrate Seekonk Day” held at the Seekonk Public Library. It was a day set aside to celebrate the history, culture, and creativity of Seekonk. The event was free and open to the public with entertainment, talks, and activities to attract all ages and interests.

There was a fun and spirited Bill Harley performance, a dynamic Pocanoket Tribe presentation, a “Black Goose” author talk, an award winning local banjo player, shadow puppets for pre-schoolers, Kindness Rock painting, Hip Hop Exercise class for seniors, Bubbles in the Meadows, and food offerings from RED’S, Sundaes and D’sLectables,.

A popular part of the day, was a diverse pop-up art gallery featuring two and three-dimensional artwork from the Seekonk Artist Network, town seniors, and student work representing all the schools in town.

Bill Clark, the chairperson for the Seekonk Cultural Council stated that, “The success of this day truly showed how the many aspects of our town can pull together for a special event. The Selectmen’s office, The Conservation Office, the Health Department, the Public Works Department, the Senior Center, the cooperation of the Seekonk Public School Department, the incredible and generous support of the Seekonk Public Library, local businesses and performers, and the dedicated members of the Seekonk Cultural Council, all joined hands to celebrate our hometown of Seekonk!” Clark said that the Cultural Council will meet soon to decide if the event will turn into an annual celebration for the town.
