Chrissy Rossi to run for City Council in November - By Bob Rodericks

Posted

School Committee member Chrissy Rossi announces intention to move to City Council: Here is Rossi's open letter:

"I am running for City Council in the November 2012 election!

Since December of 2010, I have been a hard working member of the East Providence School Committee and currently represent Ward 4 - Riverside. I have worked tirelessly to make our East Providence School Distric...t a better environment for our children and now I’m asking for your support to take the fight to the next level!

I have demonstrated my strong commitment to this City through my service on the East Providence School Committee. My unwavering commitment has been the pursuit of fairness to both the taxpayer and school department employees while keeping the best interest of our children first priority. I have the drive and the courage needed to address the difficult issues facing our city and have been a strong voice at city meetings for students as well as the taxpayer.

I worked hard to keep recess as “free-time” for our children, spearheaded the fight for full-day kindergarten across the board, pressed the City Council for better funding for our schools so that our children can have the best education possible, I continue to fight to keep sports for our students and along with Mayor Bruce Rogers, forged the successful consolidation of City Services which resulted in substantial savings for the City.

Rossi most likely intends to challenge incumbent Ward 4 councilman, Michael DiGioia. DiGioia and Rossi have clashed at previous city council meetings and are from different political camps in the city.
