FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Columbiettes # 3623 Welcomed Saint Brendan’s Pastor John Codega

On Tuesday May 8th the Columbiettes came together with their Brother Knights and families to listen to the Pastor of Saint Brendan’s Parish Rev. John Cogeda speak on the topic of “Conscience Rights and Religious Liberties”.

We were much honored to have state dignitaries of both the RI State Knights of Columbus and the Supreme Columbiettes in the audience Worthy State Deputy John Marcello, Worthy District Deputy David Quinn (State Warden Elect), Worthy Faithful Navigator Michael Grimshaw and our Territorial Deputy Maureen Soars enjoyed along with our Sister’s, Brother Knights and friends a very important discussion that impacts our faith today as we know it. The discussion was both educational and very eye-opening for all who attended.

Father Cogeda spoke on issues that are in the media and before our government and legislators today. Issues that will affect every religion but most importantly they will affect every American.

As stated in the USCCB Nationwide bulletin Insert released April – May 2012 “… because when the Bill of Rights was ratified, religious freedom had the distinction of being the First Amendment. Religious liberty is indeed the first liberty. This is our American heritage, our most cherished freedom. If we are not free in our conscience and our practice of religion, all other freedoms are fragile. If our obligations and duties to God are impeded, or even worse, contradicted by the government, then we can no longer claim to be a land of the free. “

This topic is one of many that both the Columbiettes and Knights of Columbus share similar opinions on and together we will pray for our religious liberties. Please join us!
