Cranberry Coast Concerts Season 13 ~ Summer 2018

Cranberry Coast Concerts will present their thirteenth season of events this summer in the South Coast region of Massachusetts. Directed by husband and wife pianists, composers and educators, Kirk Whipple and Marilyn Morales, the festival will feature a wide variety of performances and workshops. Included will be piano recitals, vocal and choral concerts, a jazz concert, performances by outstanding young artists. In addition to their regularly-scheduled season of events, the Whipple – Morales Duo will be presenting a series of performances at one and two pianos in venues throughout the region.

In just over a decade, the festival has grown from a few concerts offered by the Whipple – Morales Duo to a summer-long series that presents dozens of local, regional and international touring artists each season. Also, offering four weeks of musical and educational experiences for children aged 6 to 14, Cranberry Coast Concerts presents the sixth season of “Camp CCC,” directed by Michelle Bowlin, owner of Music of the Bay in East Wareham.

A Celebration of Piano & Voice

Members from The Cranberry Coast Concerts Chorale will perform a wide variety of concert works for piano and voice. Featured will be California pianist, singer and song writer Katie Ketchum in a performance of her original new song cycle, “Four Elements Suite.” CCC directors, concert pianists and composers Kirk Whipple & Marilyn Morales will be joined by vocalists Michelle Bowlin, Cathy Portlock-Pacitto, Jessica Schloesser, Steve Tinkham, Linda Westgate, and pianist James Dolan.

A Night in Vegas!

Join the cast and crew of CCC for a night of songs, frivolity and adult beverages! Music from the Rat Pack and Dueling Pianos eras will be delivered in true glittering Vegas style! Camp CCC

Children aged 7 – 14 / grades 2 – 8 are invited to discover the wonderful world of music! Four exciting weeks of music, fun and games will be enjoyed by a great group of musical campers! Parents can drop children off in the morning and pick them up afterwards. Campers, parents and members of the community will also be treated to special mid-day concerts. At the end of camp children and staff members will sing and play music together in a grand finale performance. For the sixth summer in a row, Camp CCC will be directed by Michelle Bowlin, owner of Music of the Bay and her exciting staff of musical educators. Get your reservation in soon – Camp CCC is getting more popular every summer!

Audition and workshops for the Season 12 Outstanding Young Artist Concerts

Open to serious music students aged 12 to 25. All acoustic instruments and voice welcome: soloists, duets and larger chamber ensembles. Pianists may perform as soloists or in duets, at 1 piano. This is a wonderful opportunity for skilled young artists to perform for appreciative audiences.

This will be a completely live acoustic performance experience. No recorded accompaniment will be used. If necessary, and with advance notice, an accompanist will be provided. Whipple & Morales, Duo Pianists & Composers in Concert ~ French? Sweet!

Internationally renowned husband and wife pianists Whipple & Morales present a concert of works by French for 1 piano / 4 hands. The duo will perform works by George Bizet, Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, Maurice Ravel and Camille Saint Saëns. Also featured on the program will be James Dolan, celebrated CCC Outstanding Young Artist (2011 – 2017), who will join the duo in a performance of Kirk Whipple’s Conversation pour Trois Amis / six mains.

Whipple & Morales have toured the world together for three decades, performing in a wide variety of ensembles and concert settings. They were married in a 1992 ceremony that included the world premier of their original “Concerto in B Minor for Two Pianos and Orchestra.” Founders and directors of Cranberry Coast Concerts, the duo also performs with The United Nations Piano Quartet (The UNPQ) and The Unconservatory Festival Orchestra (The UFO). Their recording with The UFO, “Danzas Para Dos Pianos y Orquesta” (Dances For Two Pianos and Orchestra), has been widely acclaimed and garnered Whipple the prestigious Florida State Individual Artist Festival for his original compositions.

Morales has received rave reviews during the past two years in Florida and Massachusetts for concert workshop productions of her original musical about the Cuban-American experience, “Always Remember.” In 2016, in Monaco and Massachusetts, The UNPQ gave the world premier performances and recordings of Symphony in C Major: Paths to Redemption by David A. Randall, arranged by Whipple.

Pianist Kirk Whipple – Solo Piano Recital

Concert Pianist, Composer and Executive Director of Cranberry Coast Concerts, Kirk Whipple, will perform a recital of major works for solo piano. His program will consist of Moonlight Sonata (Op. 27 #2 in C sharp minor) by Ludwig van Beethoven, Gaspard de la Nuit by Maurice Ravel, Sonata #7 in B flat major by Sergei Prokofiev and selections from Whipple’s original works for solo piano. These performances will include the world premiere of his latest work, Swamp Devil, a virtuoso rock and roll etude.

CCC Season 13 ~ Grand Finale

Pianists, Composers and CCC Directors Kirk Whipple & Marilyn Morales are joined by regional luminaries for a grand celebration of music to close the summer. On the program will be The CCC Cool Jazz Trio: Pianist Kirk Whipple, Drummer Randy Cloutier and Bassist Tom Casale. The trio will perform imaginative arrangements of classic jazz standards, along with unique, original works – infused with their humor and exciting ensemble playing! Featured guest artists will be vocalists Michelle Bowlin, Sarah Mawn, Joseph Monseur, Cathy Portlock-Pacitto, Jessica Schloesser, Steve Tinkham and Linda Westgate, along with pianist James Dolan.

Funds received from this performance will benefit programs of St. Blaise Catholic Church and Cranberry Coast Concerts.
