D-R April Vacation Cancelled

Posted

The Dighton-Rehoboth School Committee voted Tuesday to cancel April vacation and use those days (April 21 – 24) to continue virtual learning for the district. April 18, which is Patriot’s Day, will be observed.

June 6 is the date for the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School graduation and June 22 is the last day of school for the 2019-2020 academic year.

“For me, I don’t think stopping makes any sense,” said chairperson Katherine Cooper. “I’d rather see the (students) keep going straight through (to the end of the year).”

School Superintendent Anthony Azar said the district’s Grab N’ Go meal plan is doing well. “We’re averaging close to 100 meals a day, both breakfast and lunch,” Azar said, noting the program will be in place until further notice.

Phase II of the district’s Remote Learning plan will begin on April 8. “Based on guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and input from the Dighton-Rehoboth Teachers Association, district administrative team, and families, Phase II of our remote learning plan has been developed to provide continued learning for students and opportunities for students to connect with staff,” Azar wrote on April 6.

“As stated, remote learning will not replicate the traditional school day, but DRRSD will use remote learning tools and instructional materials to provide students with teacher directed, student driven learning opportunities. Key components of Phase II of our Remote Learning Plan will include:

  • Prioritizing student health and well-being
  • An emphasis on asynchronous learning opportunities
  • The advancement of curriculum as appropriate
  • Assigning credit/no credit for work completed by students
  • Standardizing guidelines for staff to ensure consistency,” Azar added.
