Food 4 Books

Posted

Friends of East Providence Public Library will be collecting food at the July 20 Summer Block Party on the grounds of Weaver Library. From 4 to 7 p.m., Friends will accept donations of non-perishable food, which will be donated to local food pantries. Items which are most in need include canned soup or stew, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned beans, canned pasta sauce, canned fish or chicken, peanut butter and jelly in plastic jars, pasta and rice. Also welcome are packaged food, such as whole grain cereal, macaroni and cheese and shelf-stable milk in cartons, as well as dried fruits and nuts.

In exchange for a food donation, patrons will receive a book coupon. The coupon can be used to select a book at the Friends’ pop-up book sale at the Block Parties on July 20, August 24 or September 21. Or they can be used at the Fall or Spring Book Sale or anytime at the Never-Ending Book Sale at Weaver and Riverside Library.

“In these challenging times, we recognize that there are residents in our city who can benefit from supplemental food,” noted Friends’ Book Sale Chair Louise Paiva. “Food 4 Books is our way of helping our community in a unique way.” Food items can be brought to the Friends’ booth at the July 20 Block Party in a paper bag, tote bag or box.
