JEANINE ACHIN TO LEAD YMCO OF GREATER PROVIDENCE CITY EFFORTS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Providence: Jim Berson, president and chief executive officer of the YMCA of Greater Providence, announced that Jeanine Achin will be taking on the role of district executive for East Side/Mount Hope YMCA and Providence Youth Services (PYS). “I am pleased that Jeanine will be leading a comprehensive city-wide effort to grow relationships and collaborations throughout the City, and engage more children and families in the work of the YMCA of Greater Providence. “By combining the work of the East Side/Mount Hope YMCA with PYS,” says Berson, “we will further strengthen the foundations of our community in Providence.”
Achin has been honored for her achievements in making the YMCA more accessible to all. She was instrumental at the Newman Y in Seekonk in working with the Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation to bring in state-of-the- art cardio and strength equipment designed for people living with paralysis from accidents, stroke, and other chronic diseases. She established healthy living initiatives through the National Park Service Rivers and Trails program to make walking trails on the Y property in Seekonk, MA accessible to all. Additionally, she expanded programs in the arts and humanities for youth and teens, significantly increased opportunities for older adults to become involved in the YMCA, and expanded inclusion initiatives for individuals with developmental disabilities and those living with autism through a partnership with the National Inclusion Network Project.
Before joining the YMCA in Rhode Island, she was associate executive director of the YMCA of Attleboro. Achin received her bachelor of science and her master of science degrees from Springfield College.
Achin will begin her new role at the YMCA of Greater Providence in early 2014.
