Jose M. Manteiga, age 73, of Benedict St., Riverside, died Sunday, February 10, 2019 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Maria (Botelho) Manteiga for 51 years. He was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Jose and Maria Hortencia (Almeida) Martins.

Jose worked as a caster for D&D Model Cleaning and Casting Company for 15 years and served with the Army in Portugal.

In addition to his wife Maria, he is survived by his children; Ana Correia, Maria Manteiga and Lisa Caetano all East Providence; Fernando Sawicki of Somers, CT, Hortencia “Gigi” Mourato, Oliver Manteiga and Carla Dias all of Riverside, and his 19 grandchildren. He was the brother of John Martins of East Providence, Edward Martins and Robert Martins both of Providence. He was predeceased by his twin brother Gilberto Martins and his brother Oliveiro Martins.

His funeral will begin on Thursday at 8:45am from the Rebello Funeral Home and Crematory, 901 Broadway, East Providence, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Traverse St., Providence. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7pm.
