Local Chefs Takeover Soup Kitchen

Posted

Celebrated local chef and culinary personality, Nick Rabar, will be taking over the Good Neighbors kitchen on Thursday, September 26. Rabar, chef and proprietor of Avenue N American Kitchen in Rumford, RI, will bring his 20-plus years of culinary experience into the soup kitchen to bring an elevated dining experience to Rhode Island’s underserved.

On October 18, Good Neighbors will once again turn the kitchen over to another local chef, Maggie Mulvena, founder of Feast & Fettle, the fastest-growing meal delivery service covering Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts. Mulvena’s company delivers chef-inspired meals to the dinner table for individuals and families looking to eat restaurant-quality meals at home.

Both Rabar and Mulvena will work alongside current volunteers to create a unique dining experience for approximately 70 guests. Each of the chefs will craft a lunch menu for the Good Neighbors clients using ingredients obtained in part from the Rhode Island Community Food Bank’s Retail Rescue program.

“We’re very excited to host two notable chefs at our meal site, ensuring that our homeless and food-insecure clients receive an exceptional dining experience,” said Good Neighbors Executive Director, Ric Wild.

About Good Neighbors:
Good Neighbors is in its 29th year as a registered nonprofit functioning as a soup kitchen, food pantry, and day shelter. Open Monday-Friday, the soup kitchen provides 100+ meals per day to people experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Our food pantry provides individuals and families with fresh fruits and vegetables, non-perishable goods, breads, and frozen meat and soup. Additionally, we provide over 1,400 hours of day shelter each year to some of Rhode Island’s most vulnerable. We occupy the lower level of the former St. Brendan Catholic School in Riverside, RI. Our main entrance is accessible via Dorr Ave. For more information, please visit our website at goodneighborsri.org.
