Olde White Church 11th Annual Veterans Meat Pie Supper

Posted

Swansea’s Olde White Church Salute to Veterans Meat Pie Supper is being held Friday, November 9th from 4-7:30 PM. The First Christian Congregational Church, located at 1113 GAR Highway, Swansea, MA is in its 11th year of providing this “Donation Only” buffet-style supper consisting of a ¼ slice of Willow Tree meat pie, whipped potatoes, veggies, gravy, rolls and dessert. Veterans Day is a holiday intended to thank and honor and celebrate all those who served in the military, in war time as well as in peace time. Acknowledging veterans demonstrates our gratitude for all they do to preserve our freedoms. Our church and “Veterans helping other Veterans Project” has grown to become our church’s largest outreach cause.

ALL donations are converted into food and service gift cards which Kevin Serpa, Swansea’s Veteran’s Officer, distributes throughout the year to Swansea veterans who are truly in need. Last year we were able to raise $8,200, and fed over 300 people. Mr. Serpa will be on hand to answer any questions and distribute information on available Veteran matters.

Donations in advance of the supper from local businesses and friends have been going well. Anyone wishing to contribute financially in advance to help with this cause can call the church office at (508) 673-7179 and arrange for a donation pick up. Checks can be made to the First Christian Congregational Church-Veteran’s Supper and are tax deductible. Swansea and surrounding communities has over the years steadily supported this supper with an increased turnout and financial donations. All are invited to come and enjoy the camaraderie, break bread, and participate in honoring our past and present American heroes. During these trying financial times the need is even greater to help Veterans who served in the past and those just returning and/or their families who are in need.

Thanking you in advance for helping us, help others in our community.
