Rehoboth Annual Town Election & Town Meeting Updates

Posted

Updates related to the upcoming April 7, 2020 Rehoboth Annual Town Election and May 12, 2020 Annual Town Meeting:

  • We had a Board of Selectmen Candidate withdraw from the Selectman race last week. Laura Dias Samsel filed a notarized letter of withdrawal on Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Therefore, the Selectmen race is no longer a contested race; both incumbents will be running for their individual Selectman positions. Unfortunately, due to the late notice of withdrawal, the ballots are already printed with Ms. Samsel’s name. As a result, Ms. Samsel’s name will appear on the ballot even though she is no longer a candidate.
  • Pursuant to Section 1 of Chapter 45 of the Acts of 2020 and because of the State of Emergency declared by the Governor pursuant to executive order 591, Declaration of a State of Emergency to Respond to COVID-19, and in consultation with the Town Clerk and Town Counsel, it was voted at the March 23, 2020 Board of Selectmen’s meeting that the Rehoboth Annual Town Election scheduled for April 7, 2020 is hereby postponed to Tuesday, June 30, 2020. All individuals who are on the ballot for the April Election, and currently serving, will remain in place until the Election occurs in June.
  • Also at last night’s Selectmen’s Meeting the Board of Selectmen voted to postpone the May 12, 2020 Annual Town Meeting to June 16th with a second session scheduled for June 23rd, 2020.
