Richard F. “Rick” Murphy, 72, of Riverside, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of Helen M. (Cyr) Murphy to whom he was married 53 years.

Born in Providence, he was the son of Joan (Heap) Murphy and the late Richard J. Murphy. Rick was a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service for 45 years before he retired. He was a Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He lived in Riverside for 37 years, was a summer resident of Roy Carpenters Beach and was brought up in the Fox Point section of Providence. Rick was an avid sports fan. He coached and umpired for 20 years for the Fox Point Little League, played softball for Local 57 and while he attended Hope High School he was the hockey goalie. He was a past member of the Warwick Fire Fighters Club.

Besides his wife and mother he leaves two sons, Rick P. Murphy of West Greenwich and Brian S. “Buff” Murphy of Riverside, two grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Murphy and one sister, Patricia “Patsy” Hawksley and her husband Wayne of Matunuck. He was the father of the late Dr. Shaun P. Murphy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM in St. Brendan’s Church, 60 Turner Avenue, Riverside. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-7 PM in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. In lieu of flowers contributions to Hope Health & Hospice Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 would be deeply appreciated.
