The Riverside Middle School boys basketball team is advancing in state middle school playoff action after a 69-61 win over a tough North Cumberland team this week. The team suffered its first loss in a rout from UCAP of Providence last week in a battle of undefeated teams but bounced back with an impressive win over North Cumberland.

“The first half was back and forth with the team taking a 12 point halftime lead on the back of Eddie Turays 17 points and numerous rebounds,” said head coach Scott Breault. The second half was much like the first going back and forth. “We lead the entire half but North Cumberland got it down to 59-58,” said Breault. “We benefitted from clutch free throws by Trey Rezendes and Kenaz Ochogwu and a nice 10-2 scoring run. Our team was led by Rezendes 24 points, Turay’s 18 points and 15 rebounds, Xavier Hazard and Skyller Garcia's 10 points each and Kenaz Ochogwu's 7 points,” added the coach. Riverside continues in the playoffs at Johnston High School on Monday February 11th with a rematch against UCAP at 3:30 pm. UCAP easily handled RMS last week but the Vikings are “looking forward to redeeming ourselves.”

The RMS boys will face UCAP in a 4 pm game Tuesday, February 11th at Johnston High School.

The Riverside girls team had a great season and while making it to playoff action, the Lady Vikings lost an opening round game to Smithfield. The Vikings finished with a 11-5 record.

Martin Middle School’s Season Ends:

The Martin Wildcats exciting season came to a halt after a quarterfinal match loss to Woonsocket in an away game. Martin moved through the playoffs after an opening round win over Feinstein 74-56. “I thought our team looked impressive in the win over Feinstein,” said Head Coach Chris Kennedy. “We passed the ball well, hustled on defense and played with passion. Our many fans were excited and it was a great season,” added Kennedy. The Wildcats season ending record was a respectful 12-4. The Martin girls did not advance through the playoffs.
