Seekonk Cultural Council Celebrate Seekonk Day Report

Posted

On Saturday, September 30th the Seekonk Cultural Council sponsored the third “Celebrate Seekonk Day” held at the Seekonk Public Library. It was a day set aside to celebrate the history, culture, and creativity of Seekonk. The event was free and open to the public with entertainment, talks, and activities to attract all ages and interests.

There was a fun filled juggling jester that had the whole room in belly laughs, a fascinating painting process demonstration by guest artist Rachel Brask, and an entertaining and moving Pocanoket Tribe presentation, creative Kindness Rock painting, fanciful face painting, and more!

A popular part of the day, was a diverse pop-up art gallery featuring two and three-dimensional artwork from the Seekonk Artist Network, and collaborative student work representing schools in town.

Bill Clark, the chairperson for the Seekonk Cultural Council stated that, “The success of this day truly showed how the many town offices and committees can pull together for this event. We would like to thank art teachers that participated, the boards and councils in town that displayed and handed out information, the incredible and generous support of the Seekonk Public Library, and the dedicated members of the Seekonk Cultural Council, all joined together to celebrate our hometown of Seekonk!”

Clark also stated, “The Seekonk Cultural Council will meet soon to decide on the grant applications submitted to the council to fund creative and educational programs offered for a wide range of interests to Seekonk residents in 2024.”
