Seekonk Selectmen Discuss Solar Project

Posted

The Seekonk Board of Selectmen discussed a proposed solar project for Fall River Avenue. The site will be located on a landfill behind the American Legion.

“I’m confident that this can be done,” said Energy Committee chairman Charles Beauchamp, noting the project would be a source of revenue for the town.

The board voted Wednesday to begin the RFP (request for proposals) process.

Chairman Justin Sullivan noted the board had to prioritize the projects to work on, which include construction of a new Department of Public Works building at 351 Fall River Avenue. The $1.5 million in funding was approved at last spring’s Town Meeting.

Sullivan said the Energy Committee need to provide input regarding the lease agreement and the cost of purchasing the solar panels.

“There are details that need to be worked out as far as access but you’re never going to get it worked out until you initiate the process,” said Selectman David Andrade.
