The East Providence High School Baseball team moved to 7-2 with a 3-0 win at Coventry High on Thursday, May 3rd in Division I play. In a game featuring good pitching from both teams, the Townies Seth Daly shut out Coventry in a complete game win. Daly allowed just two hits while striking out 9.

EP crossed the plate twice in the first inning. Zach Fanara walked and moved to third base on a Ben Sears double to left field. Seth Daly helped himself by lining a double to left which scored Fanara. Next up Townie catcher Cole Poissant hit a grounder to short stop which enabled Ben Sears to score the second Townie run.

The third Townie run was scored in the 6th inning when Ben Sears reached first on an infield error by Coventry. Poissant singled on a sharp line drive to right field scoring Sears who was on the move ready to steal third base.

In the 7th Coventry did advance a runner to third base by combining a single, passed ball and a fielder's choice but Daly held tough and sealed the victory by fielding a ground ball back to the mound for the final out.

"Our pitchers Ben Sears and Seth Daly are absolutely dominating on the mound," said EP coach Bobby Rodericks. "Sears (senior) and Daly (junior) are also doing it with the bats providing offense as well as juniors Zach Fanara, Josh Silveira, Julian Reis, and Nate Anselmo, " said Rodericks. "Our sophomore catcher, Cole Poissant, has been solid behind the dish and sophomores Keegan Seagrave, Sam Budnick, Micah Abrams and Andrew Baptista are all working their way in lineup preparing for the future of the program as well as producing presently for the Townies," the animated coach added. "Senior pitchers Andrew Lethbridge and Nate Pimental are also giving innings of relief to assist our two starting pitchers with their pitch count. This plays into effect especially during the 3 game weeks."

East Providence will be severely tested by perennial powerhouse Hendricken today at Pierce Stadium. The game is at 4:00 P.M. The Hawks are in first place in Division I at 8-1. East Providence is 7-2. The Hawks always present a challenge, especially with the large number of strong pitchers they are known to carry. "Our respect for Hendi is there. A lot of Division I teams are very good. I'm proud our guys are battling at the top and we will always work hard and give it our best," said Rodericks.

Tonight's game should be a good one. 8-1 Hendricken last played on Wednesday when they defeated Johnston High. The Hawks only loss came on April 11th in a 2-0 loss to North Kingstown.

Later in the evening, the equally impressive East Providence Townies softball team will take on Woonsocket at home with their impressive 2nd place 6-2 Division I record. The game will be played under the lights at 6:30 P.M. at EPHS (between the main building and Career Center). The Townies are led by veteran coach Rob Traverse.

You can also catch the East Providence(4-4)- Hendricken (6-2)volleyball match at East Providence in the gym at 6:30 P.M. tonight, Friday May 4th.

Also EP's Bay View Academy will play in a home game against Toll Gate High today at 4:00 P.M. in Division I play. The always competitive Bengals are 4-4 on the season.
