Caroline D. Chick, 94 of Rumford and West Dennis, died on Friday, March 17 at her home. Born in Burrillville, RI, Caroline was the daughter of the late Miles and Lillian Decatur. Caroline was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bruce, with whom she celebrated almost 65 years of marriage. She is survived by her two daughters, Deborah Burke (Francis) from West Barnstable, MA and Nancy Hyde (Douglas) from Westwood, MA, her grandchildren, Melissa Miller (Derek), Kelly Burke, Stephen Burke, Carrie Hyde-Riley (Justin Riley), Nathan Hyde and Sara Hyde (Richard Tamirian) and great granddaughter, Riley Miller. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Girvan and her nieces and nephews.

Caroline lived almost all of her life in Rumford. Several homes in her neighborhood were built by her grandfather and father. She was a graduate of East Providence High School and Pembroke College in Brown University in 1950 where she majored in Psychology. Caroline became an elementary school teacher in the East Providence school system and continued in this profession until she and her husband became proud parents of their daughters.

Caroline was a co-president of the Brown Class of 1950. She had been a member of the Pembroke Club and the Brown Club of Cape Cod. She was previously a member of the East Providence Historical Society, the East Providence Land Trust, the Embroiders Guild of America, the Rumford Junior Women’s Club and the Pawtucket Women’s Club. She had also been a member of the Church of Epiphany in Rumford where she was a member of the Vestry and a Sunday School teacher.

Caroline was always creating works of art including beautifully knitted sweaters, baby blankets and socks, needlepoint and embroidery, quilting and tole painting. She also enjoyed gardening and playing bridge.

Caroline’s grandchildren and beautiful great granddaughter were the source of great pride and joy. Cape Cod was a special gathering place for Caroline and Bruce and their extended family. They also enjoyed many visits to Nantucket and Bermuda.

Caroline met Bruce on a blind date in college and they were a couple from that day forward. It was a tremendous loss when Bruce passed away, but Caroline found happiness with her family and dedicated friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Historic Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI on Saturday, March 25 at 11am. The family will be receiving relatives and friends starting at 10:30am.
