EP Residents Rocked by Late Night Music from Providence

EP City Council continues to address noise pollution from neighbors in Providence

East Providence Ward Three City Councilman Nate Cahoon has written individual emails to each of Providence's 14 council members, asking for assistance in stopping or controlling the late night music blaring from areas along the Providence waterfront. "I emailed every member of their City Council, and they blew me off. So much for professional courtesy. Guess we'll have to try another angle," said Cahoon after Tuesday's night city council meeting. "I heard it as I was leaving City Hall, after we just a finished meeting where we discussed the loud music from Providence. Can't make this stuff up. Our assistant solicitor Dylan Conley is on it," added Cahoon.

"I arrived home after the meeting (6/2/21 council meeting) and my neighborhood was shaking with this loud music. We know its basic location in Providence. We continue to push Providence officials and police to deal with this," said councilman-at-large Bob Rodericks. "It shouldn't be too difficult for Providence police to stop this activity," Rodericks added.

Months ago Mayor DaSilva drove to Providence in search of the source of the music. He has contacted Providence police to ask for their help. "In the past I have reached out to Mayor Elorza and he has been helpful. I recently reached out to him again and look forward to speaking with him with the goal of coordinating efforts between our respective law enforcement departments," said East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva. "These vehicles are mobile and can relocate rather quickly. I urge people to continue reporting loud music to the East Providence Police so that they may investigate and confirm the source," added Mayor DaSilva.

The music has been deafening to a large portion of East Providence, sometimes during the day as well as late into the night. "Maybe the time has come for East Providence to bring this issue up with Providence officials when discussing issues of joint concern such as the Henderson Bridge project, etc. Providence needs our help on various occasions and should respect our position. I'll also be writing to our state legislative delegation today to ask them to intercede with their Providence counterparts in the State House," said Rodericks.

The city council has been unanimous in their attempts to seek assistance from Providence officials. "This has been a problem for years," said Ward Two council member Anna Sousa.
