Janet Ann Mills

Janet Ann Mills, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Rumford, Rhode Island, on April 21, 2023.

She is predeceased by her parents, Grace (Shoemaker) and James Landitch, son, Barry, son-in-law, Wayne A. Webb, Jr., and her husband of fifty-seven years, Gustave.

Janet leaves behind her brother, James Landitch, brother-in-law, Glenn Mills, daughters, Leigh A. Mills (Henry E. Bell, Jr.), and Laura Mills Webb, daughter-in-law, Elaine Bonner (David Bonner), as well as her beloved grandchildren, Austin S. Mills (Ericka), Bianca E. Hebert (Nicholas), Grace C. Michelle Webb, Georgia L. Bell, and Hope V. Bell.

Both New Jersey natives, Janet and Gus moved to Burlington, Massachusetts and then to Barrington, Rhode Island, where they raised their children (and a multitude of pets) and spent many laughter-filled years, making impactful and lasting friendships.

With Barry, Leigh, and Laura all in college, Janet and Gus set their sights on Rumford and a one-hundred-year-old farmhouse in need of attention. They lovingly and proudly restored the farmhouse, where Janet and Gus (and more pets) hosted family, cherished friends and neighbors, and enjoyed the rest of their days.

Interment will be at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 301 South County Trail, Exeter, Rhode Island, on Friday, June 2, 2023, promptly at 11:30 a.m. Attendees should meet at the administrative parking lot no later than 11:15 a.m.

It was Janet’s wish that contributions in her name be made to The Marvin Fund - RISPCA, in lieu of flowers. The Marvin Fund provides financial support for the RISPCA’s Animal Health Center, including direct financial subsidies to supplement the cost of veterinary care for pet owners in need of assistance at independent veterinary practices and low-cost veterinary clinics, including the RISPCA’s own Animal Health Center.
