Robert R. Mason, 89, of Indian Road, Riverside passed away peacefully at home with family by his side Wednesday, November 17, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. (Faulkner) Mason. Born in West Warwick, he was a son of the late Roland H. and Claire C. (Archambault) Mason. He was the beloved father of Elizabeth A. Mason and Stephen J. Mason, Sr.; grandfather of Stephen J. Mason, Jr., Jhett T. Mason and Carissa Jo Mason; brother of the late Reginald P. Mason and Madeline Doris Mason. Bob also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. An Army Veteran and an Air Force Veteran, Bob served in the Korean War. He was a 32⁰ Mason and Past Master of St. John’s Lodge #1 Providence, Free & Accepted Masons where he was a member for 65 years. Bob was also a member of the Scottish Rite, the Order of the Eastern Star Providence Chapter #1, and many other fraternal organizations throughout the years. He was a member of the Quinn Family Funeral Home staff for 26 years and was a friendly face at city halls across the state. Bob loved spending time with family, traveling, and singing for Lodge and Church. He loved warm sunny days, spending time by the water and reading the paper in his favorite chair. Bob was a friend to all that knew him.

Bob was active most of his life and would have said he had “89 years of good living.” He worked hard his whole life, but also brought a lot of smiles and laughter to whatever he did. He loved to tell a good story or a joke to whomever would listen! Aside from working with the Army National Guard until he retired in 1991, he was very active with many Masonic Lodges and often said he was “the only “real” Mason in the State.” He was also active with the Order of Eastern Star and other organizations such as the Milers and Key Notes. He met Mom through the O.E.S. He loved to sing and was a soloist for his many fraternal affiliations from about 1963 to 2011. He also sang with the Church choir and would often sing at weddings and funerals.

As a Dad, he was very loving and supportive and could often be found at a little league game cheering from the bleachers, watching his grandson’s soccer games, listening to a high school band concert or sitting in the cold at a football game watching the marching band. He loved playing with his grandkids and was very proud of his kids and grandchildren. As a family, we traveled quite a bit to Florida to visit the grandparents and he still enjoyed traveling throughout his life. He loved to cruise with Mom and visit “someplace warm.” That usually meant the Caribbean, Florida or Mississippi and we were able to travel to Hawaii for the millennium. He also visited the Panama Canal and Alaska with Mom. Family was very important to him.

Bob was a big baseball fan and loved to watch the Red Sox and PawSox. You could often hear him rooting for the home team either from his armchair or from the bleachers at McCoy (Get a hit!). He could often be seen with his Boston baseball cap on. If you know Bob, you know he loved to eat! Back when he worked at Quonset, he would often come home on a Friday with freshly harvested clams. He made the best chowder, clamcakes and fresh cut french fries. He loved a good meal and loved to go out to eat, especially for seafood and homemade strawberry shortcake. He often said that “if you give someone a good meal at a good price they’ll always come back” and we did.

Bob touched the lives of many people in many ways throughout his 89 year journey. Everyone seems to have their own personal story. He will be greatly missed.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 10 am at the Haven United Methodist Church, 200 Taunton Avenue, East Providence. Burial with full military honors will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence. Visiting hours will be held Monday, from 4-7 pm in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Avenue, Warwick.
