Free Fall Sports Exam Program Returns at University Orthopedics

Posted

After a year hiatus, University Orthopedics is proud to announce it is not only resuming but growing, a tradition more than two decades in the making and will once again provide free Fall Sports Pre-Participation Exams for student-athletes of all ages, including those at the collegiate level.

Due to the previous success of this program – which is in its 22nd year - University Orthopedics will host this year’s event in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The exams will be conducted by appointment on July 31, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 1 Kettle Point Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island and 10 Reservoir Street in Mansfield, MA.

More than 200 local student-athletes received free exams in 2019, and with the addition of Mansfield, the practice hopes to further grow this program.

"We are beyond thrilled to bring this program back after a year off and expand into Mansfield. It has been a huge success over the last 20-plus years, and we look forward to offering the same opportunity to children and families in the nearby Massachusetts communities," said Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Aristides Cruz, Jr.

As the official orthopedic provider of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), University Orthopedics knows being a student-athlete is a challenge that requires a tremendous amount of diligence and sacrifice. The center aims to support the success of local student-athletes and their families by helping them begin their seasons safely, while also making the back-to-school rush a little easier.

“These young athletes have been through so much this past year, with some of them missing an entire year of their sport,” said Physical Therapist Terry Moreno Toste, program coordinator. “We look forward to doing our part not only to help them get back to doing what they love but helping them do so safely.”

As the result of a partnership with Orthopedic Care Physician Network (OCPN) beginning July 1, University Orthopedics will have 13 locations across Massachusetts and Rhode Island with more than 60 physicians, 45 advanced practice providers, 50 therapists, and numerous residents and fellows ready to care for the region’s youngest residents and their families.
