Bill Runey Appointed as Next Superintendent of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District

The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. William M. (Bill) Runey, Jr as Superintendent of Schools pending contract negotiations. Mr. Runey will assume his duties as of July 1, 2022.

Mr. Runey’s appointment comes after a nationwide search process that attracted over thirty applicants for the position. A Superintendent Search Screening Committee composed of parents, town officials, community members, and school personnel, from the DightonRehoboth community, reviewed all the applications and invited several candidates for preliminary interviews. Subsequent to the preliminary interviews, the screening committee recommended several candidates for further consideration by the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School Committee.

Mr. Runey visited the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School district on February 10 and was interviewed by the School Committee that evening. On February 11, members of the Committee attended a site visit to Mr. Runey’s home district at Attleboro High School. On February 16, 2022, the School Committee voted unanimously to enter into contract negotiations with Mr. Runey.

Mr. Runey has served as the Principal of Attleboro High School for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he served as the Principal of Bishop Feehan High School. Mr. Runey’s energetic and infectious collaborative leadership style earned popularity and respect throughout the Attleboro community. During his time at Attleboro High School, Mr. Runey changed the culture within the building which had positive effects throughout Attleboro Public Schools and the community at large. Mr. Runey was the public face of the new high school construction project garnering voter support by an impressive 2:1 margin and playing a key role in the management of the project which will be opening for the 2022-23 school year. Mr. Runey brings proven success in improving student outcomes, growing Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, community engagement and a wide range of administrative experience over 34+ years in education.

I have quickly seen so many wonderful things about the DRRSD and look forward to bringing them to the next level”, said Mr. Runey upon learning of his selection.

The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District School Committee is excited for the future of the District and is looking forward to working with Mr. Runey for many years to come. The School Committee also extends its appreciation to all those in the community of Dighton-Rehoboth who offered their support and assistance during the search process.
