Cultural and Spiritual Competency in End of Life Care

Attleboro, MA - On Monday, April 8, 2019, Community VNA will host an educational program examining how cultural and spiritual beliefs can have a direct impact on end-of-life decision making and care. Cultural and Spiritual Competency in End of Life Care presentation and discussion will be shown at Community VNA, 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

This free program features a screening of the webinar from Hospice Foundation of America, featuring presentations by Nora Luna, MEd and Rev. Kristopher T. Halsey, DDiv, PhD. This program looks at how professionals can ensure that each patient receives care that is grounded in an understanding of individual culture and faith beliefs, and how those beliefs and practices might influence both the dying person and the grief of their loved ones.
The objectives of the program are to:

•Understanding the role of culture in influencing a patient’s experience of dying
•Understanding how cultural factors influence end of life decision making
•Understanding cultural influences in one’s grief process
•Understanding varying communication styles in order to provide the best care

This program is free and open to the public, however, it was designed to serve professionals working with loss, including: counselors, social workers, case managers, certified nursing assistants, clergy, funeral directors, health care professionals, home health aides, therapists, nurses, nursing home administrators, physicians, psychologists, social workers, and others working with the bereaved.

This program is valid for 1.5 CE credits (at a cost of $9) for nurses, social workers, and a wide variety of professionals. A certificate of attendance also is available. Information on applying for CE credits through HFA will be provided to participants.
